Vision

Femtogrid introduces a solutions for renewable energy systems for the built environment that improves the performance, reliability and safety of installations. In addition, once equipped with Femtogrid, installations are easy to expand in a plug & play manner. Our first focus is on PV solar energy. Our Femtogrid Solar System is the solution for residential and small commercial rooftop (up to 50 kWp) installations in the built environment and is a breakthrough for:

• the current technology of manufacturers
• the current expertise of system integrators
• installers
• system owners/end users

As our solutions optimize system performance and at the same time reduce costs and complexities without making the current technology obsolete. Femtogrid combines the current technology of PV module manufacturers with a revolutionary parallel system approach. Our Femtogrid Solar System optimizes the source, e.g. the PV module, and connects all individual modules using a parallel network to the inverter that feeds into the mains. As a result, our Femtogrid Solar System solves the negative impact of shading on the total system performance and therefore on the energy harvest.

The Femtogrid Solar System consists of:

• Power Optimizers per module
• Cables
• Inverter 2400
• Monitoring

Together with the PV modules and the PV mounting system these 4 components form the total PV system.

Optimization with the Femtogrid Solar System

The performance of renewable energy systems is as strong as its weakest individual link. In order to optimize the performance of the total system the effect of each single component on the total system performance must be optimized. The optimization of Femtogrid lies at the functioning of all individual components in the total PV system approach in the built environment, by addressing the limitations that almost naturally arise in the built environment with the traditional serial system approach and which prevent the performance of PV systems from realizing its full potential.

For renewable energy installations in the built environment, Femtogrid is committed to:

• Transforming the traditional serial system design into a parallel system design improving the performance and therefore energy harvest of systems
• Supplying an end-to-end system solution that addresses and overcomes all of the technological, physical, economical, and regulatory challenges that currently limit the PV harvesting space
• Setting new standards for solar PV performance, intelligence, reliability and safety
• Lowering the threshold to invest in renewable energy installations and gain wider acceptance in more markets.

Our solution improves the produced kWh per PV installation by means of our parallel 400Vdc system approach with a Power Optimizer per module, cables, a simplified DC/AC inverter and monitoring. By addressing - and improving - current system obstacles, the cost and complexities will be reduced.
