DC Power

We live in a world that runs on electricity: alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC). The flow of electrons shapes our daily lives, everything we do and everything we produce. AC powers are grid: our street lights, our ovens, and our clocks. DC powers the things that define us: our musics, our phones, our laptops, our tablets, and our cars. AC and DC work together. But now the world needs more power than ever. Power with a smaller environmental impact. AC and DC will be partners as we will look towards a more DC world.

At Femtogrid we believe in DC power and in DC networks in order to meet house owners' demand for electricity. We are convined that solar and wind energy installations offer great opportunities to meet our own demand for energy as these energy sources are non-depletable and widely available. Solar panels, for example, using the Femtogrid Solar System produce clean DC power. As our electricity grid demands AC power, however, our inverter transforms the DC power into AC power. Doing so, the electricity not being consumed directly by the house owner is fed into the grid. House owners receive money for every kWh supplied to the grid, where the amount of kWh's supplied to the grid determines the price per kWh received.

In order to furthermore explain the world of DC and AC power, we came across an interesting video made by ABB. ABB is a global leader in power and automation technologies. Watch it here to learn more about DC power.
