Femtogrid

Unequal power output of solar panels due to partial shading, a different orientation or module mismatch is a big problem for PV installations using serial string inverters. Femtogrid solves this problem and maximizes the energy produced for faster return on investment.

Femtogrid is the solution for residential and small commercial rooftops (up to 50 kWp) installations that improves the performance, reliability, safety of PV installations and the applicability of solar panels.

The Potential of Femtogrid

Our solution enables to combine different solar panels in one PV system, in terms of:

  • Type (e.g mono- with polycristalline)
  • Power output (e.g. 185 Wp with 235 Wp)
  • Power tolerance
  • Open circuit voltage (Voc)
  • Cell technology or number of cells
  • Manufacturer
  • Aging
  • Output variation in response to temperature variation
  • Angle to the sun (e.g. azimuth and/or angle of the rooftop)

The first installation shown shows full roof optimization as also partially shaded m2 can now be used for solar panels. The second installation combines different types of poly crystalline (pc-Si) modules in one PV-system. These solar panels differ in terms of power output (185, 240, and 245 Wp), power tolerance, open circuit voltage, manufacturer, aging, output variation and angle to the sun (from facade or 90 degrees upto 30 degrees and/or different azimuths).

The third installation uses solar panels with different angles and orientations to the sun. Whereas, also the fourth installation shows this practicality of Femtogrid for rooftops. With Femtogrid the orientation of the solar panels connected to the same inverter does not have to be the same in order to have a well functioning system.

By adding smart electronics to each solar panel and connecting the solar panels in parallel our solution maximizes power generation for all solar panels individually. This results in faster return on investment.
