DC Cables

An important aspect in our system architecture are the Femtogrid DC Cables, which supports our 400 Vdc parallel system approach. In order to ensure a safe system for installers and system owners we use an integrated (black) safety wire in our DC cable. This safety wire feeds all Femtogrid PV300 Power Optimizers from the Femtogrid Inverter 2400. Disconnecting the DC Cable leading from the Inverter 2400 indoor to the PV300 Power Optimizers on the roof disconnects all PV300 Power Optimizers.

As a result, the power of the individual solar panel cannot be higher than its open circuit power, whereas with serial strings of solar panels the power of the module is added in the string generating dangerous situations. Hence, PV systems equipped with our products result in increased installer/system owner safety. Moreover, the Femtogrid DC Cables improve fire safety as they does not smoke nor release poisonous vapours in case of fire.

Our male and female DC connectors enable easy disconnection of the PV300 Power Optimizers making our solution a plug & play system. Our bus system is easy to expand if more solar panels are added to our Inverter 2400 or defective solar panels need replacement. Femtogrid DC Cables are TÜV certified and connect all PV300 Power Optimizers mounted behind the solar panel in parallel to the Femtogrid Inverter 2400.

Advantages of the DC Cable

Performance
+ Plug&play
+ Easy to expand the system or replace defective solar panels

Safety
+ Increased firemen/installer/system owner
+ Easy to disconnect soalr panels and the total system

How do the Femtogrid DC cables look

Femtogrid DC Cables feed the solar produced power from the PV300 Power Optimizers to the Femtogrid Inverter 2400. They look like the normal solar cable, but are thicker as they contains 3 x 2,5 mm2 cores:

How to use

Use the Femtogrid DC Cables in combination with the Femtogrid PV300 Power Optimizer per solar panel and the Femtogrid Inverter 2400 to form a parallel 400 Vdc network or the so-called Femtogrid®. The Inverter 2400, subsequently, inverts the 400 Vdc to 230 Vac and feeds the produced solar energy that has not been used directly by the system owner into the mains.

Use:

  • 3 core 2,5 mm2 DC cable for installations from 2 up to 4 kW
  • 3 core 4,0 mm2 DC cable for installations from 4 up to 8 kW

The distance from one PV module to another determines the length of the Femtogrid DC Cable connecting one PV300 Power Optimizer to another. If possible, we offer standard lengths of 2 m Femtogrid DC Cables for PV installations in the residential area. Whereas the standard length for the DC Cable of the PV300 Power Optimizer most nearby the inverter is 8 m. However, custom lengths can be supplied as well if installations demand tailor madelenghts of the Femtogrid DC Cable.

The Femtogrid DC Cable contains three wires: a red wire, which is the +, a blue wire, which is the -, and an extra integrated black safety wire, which is the 0. These three symbols (+,-, and 0) are also displayed on the back side of the male and female DC connector. The position of the + and - for the male connector, however, is reversed in comparison to the female DC connector to make them compatible. Make sure to connect the three wires as described above when assembling a DC connector.
