Inverter 2400

The Femtogrid Inverter 2400 is a single phase isolated inverter. It is a "simplified" inverter compared to traditional serial string inverters as the Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) functionality is not performed by the Inverter 2400 but by each PV300 Power Optimizer mounted behind every solar panel. This is the major difference between our Inverter 2400 and traditional serial string inverters.

The Inverter 2400 is a robust inverter as there are no redundant electronics and it is designed to be highly efficient in DC to AC conversion: 400 Vdc feeding in and 230 Vac going out into the mains. It communicates with each PV300 Power Optimizer and transmits this datalog to the Monitoring Box via a wireless ZigBee network. The Monitoring Box, in turn, sends the datalog to the personal webpage, the Monitoring Portal.

As the Inverter 2400 is galvanic separated (isolated transformer) the solar panels, Power Optimizers and DC Cabling are safely separated from the grid. This significantly increases safety for installers and system owners. The system is plug & play, which makes the system easy to disconnect.

How does the Femtogrid Inverter 2400 look

The Femtogrid Inverter 2400 has a robust appearance. It weighs about 38 kg and its dimenions are 323x202x646 mm (WxLxH). It must be mounted inside (IP31).

How to use

Use the Femtogrid Inverter 2400 in combination with Femtogrid DC cables and the Femtogrid PV300 Power Optimizers behind every solar panel to form a parallel 400 Vdc netwerk or the so-called Femtogrid®. The Inverter 2400 enables to communicate about the performance of the PV installation. This data (for example about the production of kWh) can be made available on a personal webpage using Femtogrid Monitoring.

Connect a solar DC input>2.55 kW to the Inverter 2400?

The Femtogrid Inverter 2400 is designed to withdraw a maximum of 2550 Wdc from the solar panels. If for example 3.0 kW of solar input is connected to the Inverter 2400 the maximum DC power to be withdrawn is 2550 Wdc. This will increase the voltage of the Femtogrid bus in the direction of the 400 Vdc level. The Femtogrid PV300 Power Optimizers, in turn, react by squeezing the power of the solar panels until the Femtogrid bus voltage is at its maximum of 400 Vdc. The PV300 Power Optimizer that reaches this 400 Vdc level will temporarily turn off until the voltage level of the bus has declined again and, in turn, will switch on again. The Femtogrid® bus system therefore has a stabilizing functionality.

Scalability

The Inverter 2400 is scalable, which means it can be used in parallel in order to match larger installations. This scalability of the Inverter 2400 increases the flexibility of our solution for PV installaitons and its applicability significantly. It is not just an inverter for small installations that equal its 2550 Wdc; it can also be used for installations up to 50 kWp. Examples are installations performed by GE4ALL Nederland BV. Among other installations, they have equipped installations with 8 and 10 inverters, placed in parallel.

Master vs. Slave

Expecting to generate more than the 2550 Wdc, our solution for PV installations can easily be equipped with an extra Femtogrid Inverter 2400. If for example 3,6 kWp of solar modules is connected to the Femtogrid Inverter 2400 and the modules are expected to generate more than the maximum DC power (2550 Wdc) an extra Femtogrid Inverter 2400 is needed to efficiently invert the DC power into AC power. Both inverters can be placed in parallel on the DC side of the system to make them as efficient as possible, defining a master/slave inverter. The 'master' Femtogrid Inverter 2400 is the inverter which continuously inverts all DC power into AC power. The 'slave' inverter is only used when the total DC power fed to the Master Inverter 2400 exceeds a certain threshold level. This will garantee an optimal use of our Femtogrid Inverter 2400.
