Benefits for System Integrators

The Femtogrid Solar System offers significant benefits to system integrators of resdential and small commercial rooftop (up to 50 kWp) installations in the built environment:

  • Increased safety with safe voltages during installation, commisioning and maintenance due to our integrated safety wire in our cabling.
  • Immediate installation feedback for each solar panel for faster site commissioning. After the installation has been completed the system integrator can log in to the monitoring portal to examine the functioning of the PV system.
  • Reduced operation & maintenance costs due to effective module level monitoring. In case of underperformance of the total PV installation the monitoring portal will tell the installer where to focus on, which will decrease the required time on site.
  • Scalability as adding solar panels to existing installations equipped with the Femtogrid Solar System is easy.  As a result, PV installations can be expanded as needed.
  • Install more modules per given rooftop due to the removal of traditional design constraints.

This last benefit is cleary pointed out by the upper 2 installations presented here below. The window dormer generates partial shading of the rooftop for the left upper installation, whereas the lamppost does the same for the right upper installation. With a traditional serial system approach this partial shading would have had a negative system effect on the total PV installation. In order to prevent the negative system effect System Integrators would advise System Owners to leave this space unused. Our parallel system approach solves this issue and enables to install more modules per given rooftop.

This same line of reasoning holds for the installation realised in the lower 2 installations. As our parallel system approach can support the usage of different rooftops in one PV system without experiencing a negative system effect for the total PV installation. In other words, the Femtogrid Solar System enables the usage of different orientations and/or angels to the sun in one PV system.

This two features are a major improvement in comparison to the traditional serial approach of PV systems and increase the freedom to design a PV system in the built environment significantly.

Advantages compared to a traditional serial system approach:

Performance
+ Up to 30% more energy harvest (kWh) per PV installation
+ Solves the negative system effect of partial shading
+ All types of PV modules can be connected
+ Full roof optimalization
+ Remote system management

Reliability
+ Monitoring per PV module (optional)
+ Increased system uptime

Safety
+ Increased firemen/installer/system owner
+ Easy to disconnect PV modules and the total system

The Femtogrid Solar System is certified for the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom and is now available via our dealers. We advise to use the Femtogrid Solar System for new PV installations, as the Power Optimizers must be connected to our cables and our own inverter 2200 to form a parallel 400Vdc netwerk or the so-called Femtogrid. Retrofit is possible, however, costly as an installer must first distmantle the existing PV installation. The installer then mounts the Power Optimizer behind each PV module, connects them to the Femtogrid Cables and to the Inverter 2200. As a result, the inverter already bought becomes obsolete.
